Infant Formula Shortages – FDA Updates They are Taking Steps to Improve Supply
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is providing an update on additional steps it has taken that will lead to more infant formula available in the U.S. under the agency’s recent increased flexibilities

FDA released an update that they are working to work to increase the availability of infant and specialty formula products by: meeting regularly with major infant formula manufacturers to better understand their capacity to increase production of various types of infant formulas & medical foods, expediting necessary certificates to allow for flexibility in the movement of already permitted products, & by offering a streamlined import entry review process for products coming from facilities with favorable inspection records.

The AAP’s healthychildren.org has posted guidance on infant formula shortages that address concerns with diluting formula by watering it down and the dangers of making homemade formula. Additionally, we continue to encourage women to breastfeed and Georgia WIC is working with families and formula companies to identify formula supply in local areas.
