Welcome
January 2025
January is here, like it or not!… and the new year begins. Here’s a few things to add to your calendar now:
By now, you have heard that we have re-set our wonderful Gala marking the 70th anniversary of the Georgia Chapter, to Saturday evening, March 8, at the same time and same place–the Renaissance Waverly Hotel, which adjoins the Cobb Galleria Centre. You may register for the meeting by clicking here. It won’t be a party without you!……so we do hope to see you there.
We made the decision to postpone based on the toll that Hurricane Helene took on our state and so many of our members and their families, their practices, their hospitals in southern and eastern Georgia. The Chapter foundation–the Pediatric Foundation of Georgia—has committed $25,000 to assist those members impacted by the storm. A letter was sent to them at the end of November, and requests will be accepted until early January.
On January 13, the Georgia General Assembly will convene for its 2025 Legislative Session. We hope all our members know who their state representative and state senator is and can be prepared to contact them during the session, on bills that are important to our members and their young patients. Our Legislative Day at the Capitol, will be held on Thursday, February 13, at the State Capitol & Floyd Veterans Memorial Bldg. We hold this event in collaboration with our colleagues in family medicine, internal medicine, OB-Gyn, and the DO society as part of our PCP Coalition. To register, click here. And follow the action at the State Capitol on our Legislative Page, as we will report on the issues we’re following and those that impact medicine and pediatrics in particular.
Also, in the first quarter, we have some great webinars planned on topics we think will be of interest to you and your colleagues. These include ones on New CPT Coding Changes for 2025, Fluoride Varnish Application During Well-Visits: Time & Cost Considerations, and others. Check our Events calendar for details.
And golfers, listen up! The Jim Soapes Charity Golf Classic will be held on Wed., May 7, at the beautiful Cherokee Run Golf Club, Conyers. All net proceeds benefit the Chapter foundation. Registration will be available soon.
Finally, when winter comes around, sometimes thoughts turn to warmer weather, and that means Pediatrics By the Sea, June 10-14, 2025; at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Amelia Island, Fla. Watch for program and registration information coming soon. And thanks in advance this this year’s program chair: Valera Hudson, MD, chair of pediatrics, MCG at Augusta University; and colleagues Lisa Leggio, MD and Carrie Stinson, MD.
For other information, call or email Joanna Caceres-Aponte at the Chapter office: 404-881-5091 or jcaceres-aponte@gaaap.org.
As always, please let us know at the Georgia AAP office if we can ever assist you.
